The dates that matter

The show and the show floor are not the same length.

• Education runs Tuesday to Friday, March 2–5.
• Exhibits run Wednesday to Friday, March 3–5.

If you are travelling for the floor rather than the programme, that first day is not one of them. Booking a Monday-night arrival for a Wednesday floor opening is a common and expensive mistake.

What it is

Expo West is the trade show for the natural and organic industry — food and drink above all, alongside supplements, personal care and household goods.

It is produced by New Hope Network, part of Informa Markets. For much of the industry it functions as the annual buying calendar, and brands time launches to it.

Fresh Ideas Organic Marketplace

The most distinctive thing about Expo West's structure is that it starts outdoors.

The Fresh Ideas Organic Marketplace is a one-day outdoor event held before the main floor opens, which the organiser describes as combining "the charm of a traditional farmers market with the business-building potential of an industry trade show". Everything shown there must be certified organic.

It matters for two different reasons:

• For buyers, it is a smaller, quieter setting than the main halls — the organiser calls it "a focused one-on-one sales and educational environment".
• For brands, it is a cheaper way in. The organiser positions it for newcomers as a way to launch an organic product at a smaller financial commitment than a full booth, and for existing exhibitors as a way to stretch their presence across four days rather than three.

A note on its sibling

Expo West's autumn counterpart, Natural Products Expo East, was retired after 2023 and replaced by Newtopia Now. Expo West continues.
