Greenbuild 2026: Green Building's Biggest Gathering Comes to New York

Greenbuild returns to the Javits Center in New York on October 20–23, 2026. Run by the U.S. Green Building Council with Informa, it is the largest annual meeting of the people who design, build, certify and operate sustainable buildings.

What's on the programme

Education is why most people come. The 2026 sessions centre on LEED v5 implementation, Passive House design, building resilience, and health and wellness in the built environment.

Most workshops carry CE accreditation, so the credits count toward maintaining professional certification. The programme leans on case studies — completed projects and measured performance — rather than theory.

The expo floor

Exhibitors cover building materials, envelope systems, performance monitoring and energy management. Between them they address every certification pathway the show supports: LEED, TRUE, SITES, PEER, WELL, EDGE.

Four days is enough to work the floor properly and still attend sessions, which is not true of every show this size.

Why the venue is worth a look

The Javits Center is a fitting host. Its retrofit added a 6.75-acre green roof, among the largest in the country, alongside a rebuilt envelope and modern energy management — turning a 1980s building with a poor energy record into a working demonstration of the subject.

It sits on Manhattan's West Side, a short walk from the 7 train at Hudson Yards and about ten minutes from Penn Station.

Greenbuild 2026 runs four days at the Javits Center, pairing an accredited education programme with an expo floor covering the full range of green building certifications.

Education sessions cover LEED v5 implementation, Passive House principles, building resilience, and health and wellness in the built environment. Most carry CE credits. Expert panels bring in practitioners presenting completed projects rather than vendors presenting pitches.

Greenbuild is aimed at the people who specify, build, certify and run sustainable buildings — and the programme is organised around what each of those groups needs.

Design and engineering. Architects and designers working on LEED-certified projects get the LEED v5 sessions and the Passive House track. MEP engineers get the systems side: ventilation, controls, and the health-and-wellness requirements now written into WELL.

Building operations. Owners, facility managers and operations staff come for the retrofit material — performance optimisation and energy efficiency in buildings that already exist, which is where most of the sector's emissions actually sit.

Construction. General contractors, project managers and site supervisors get sustainable construction methods and materials, including what has changed in the certification paperwork they have to produce.

Sustainability and certification. Consultants, sustainability coordinators and corporate sustainability officers get the certification programmes side by side — LEED, TRUE, SITES, PEER, WELL and EDGE — which is unusual; most events cover one.

Planning and development. Urban planners, landscape architects and developers get community-scale design and resilience planning rather than single-building work.

Government staff, policy makers and academic researchers attend for the standards and regulation content, and tend to find the case-study sessions more useful than the product floor.

The floor is built around certification pathways, so the exhibitors who do well are the ones whose product maps to a credit an attendee is trying to earn.

Building systems. Energy-efficient HVAC, smart building controls and renewable energy — the equipment that carries LEED, WELL and EDGE points.

Materials. Recycled-content products, low-emission materials and high-performance insulation. Buyers here are architects and contractors specifying against a certification target, not browsing.

Software. Performance modelling, energy management and sustainability tracking platforms, sold to facility managers and sustainability teams rather than to designers.

Advisory services. Certification consultants and environmental assessment firms, reaching projects that are mid-pursuit across all six programmes.

Water, air and wellness. Water conservation, indoor air quality and healthy-building products, for the growing share of attendees working to WELL rather than to energy targets alone.

Landscape and infrastructure. Green roofs, living walls, sustainable landscaping and resilient infrastructure — well matched to a venue whose own 6.75-acre green roof is on the tour.
