The Book Publishing circuit, mapped
Book publishing in our catalog leans toward public book festivals, alongside a smaller set of larger fairs. Frankfurt Book Fair and Bologna Children's Book Fair are the two international fairs in the catalog, the latter focused on children's books specifically. BookCon rounds out the larger events. The regional festivals include Brooklyn Book Festival and Miami Book Fair International, alongside the Twin Cities, Gaithersburg, and West Virginia book festivals.
Season and geography
November is the busiest month in our listings, when the Twin Cities and Miami festivals both run, with October close behind as Frankfurt Book Fair and the West Virginia festival land in the same stretch. September and the spring months carry the rest of the calendar, with the Gaithersburg festival and Bologna Children's Book Fair filling out the shoulder seasons. The calendar is spread thin geographically, with no city hosting more than one show; Brooklyn and Miami both fall in that fall cluster.
Choosing a show
Readers and local audiences are well served by any of the regional festivals, which are built around public attendance rather than trade business. Publishers and exhibitors covering the international side of the industry should look toward Frankfurt Book Fair or Bologna Children's Book Fair, the two fairs in this catalog based outside the United States. Anyone building a fall trip can pair the Brooklyn and Miami dates without much overlap in timing, and can add the West Virginia or Twin Cities festivals depending on which coast they're already covering.
